With the weather forecast calling for Red Flag conditions with high temperatures, gusty winds and low humidity, the Marion County Fire Defense Board, has enacted a burn ban within Marion County effective Thursday, August 18, 2016. Due to the high temperatures combined with predicted winds the Marion County Fire Defense Board has issued a total ban of all outdoor burning effective immediately. All outdoor burning including recreational fires are prohibited in Marion County. This ban is based on weather conditions and community fire safety needs and will remain effect through the weekend or until weather conditions improve to minimize the fire danger.

Cooking outdoors in approved propane or charcoal barbecue grills is allowed during this total burning ban but always remember and follow safe grilling practices, and properly dispose of coals in a metal container when finished.

The Burn Ban includes the following open burning situations: 1. Backyard burning (yard debris, etc.) 2. Agricultural burning 3. Land clearing or slash burning 4. Recreational fires, including: a. Backyard fire pits. b. Outdoor fireplaces and portable fireplaces (Chimineas, etc.)

Individuals found to be in violation of these requirements during the burn ban may be held liable for the cost of extinguishment and for any property damage resulting from an illegal fire.
